Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are going to be given a leg up in the public tendering process, in a bid by the government to facilitate the procedure.

Speaking during a press conference this morning, Economy minister Chris Cardona said that bid bonds will no longer be required for tenders with a value of less than € 120,000, with effect from 1 October 2013.

A performance guarantee will no longer be required for tenders with a value not exceeding €10,000.

Another initiative that the government is working on is an “Electronic Public Procurement System,” which will incorporate all public calls for tenders.

Further to this, a direct mailing service is going to be set up which will see all public calls emailed to businesses.
